Forest Practices Act Challenged in Idaho Court

In Boise a Priest Riverman files suit in Federal District Court challenging the Idaho Forest Practices Act as unconstitutional. Jack A. Williams leader of the repeal group seeks an injunction to block enforcement and a parallel suit seeks to bar Governor Andrus from applying the Land Use Act. No hearing date set yet. The 1974 act delayed enactment to July 1 for the Department of Public Lands to implement.

Senate Panel Seeks Six Month CIA Probe Extension

Senate Intelligence Committee chair Frank Church asks for six extra months to finish the CIA inquiry amid delays in obtaining documents from the administration. Co chair John Tower backs extending the panel’s life to February 25 1976 pending full Senate approval. Smathers recalls Kennedy discussed but opposed any assassination plot against Fidel Castro.

McClure Gets High NASC Rating Among Senators

The NASC rated the 93rd Congress with Senator James McClure at 88 percent and Senator Frank Church at 25 percent. McClure earned a Guardians of the Aged label for strong senior citizen support while Church was labeled a Deficit Do-Gooder for opposing key economic senior protections.

Districts Get Jobs Grant For Sandpoint and Priest Lake

The Sandpoint and Priest Lake ranger districts receive 290100 to hire unemployed workers on projects in slash disposal trail work roadside cleanup and work center remodeling. 18 and 25 hires planned with Labor Department referrals and supervision.

Air Show and Beach Benefit Barbecue Set for Sunday

Sandpoint Lions Club hosts a Beach Benefit Barbecue with Ozma Para sky divers and Henley Aerodrome acts performing at 2 and 4 p.m. A Washington Air National Guard jet flyover is planned between 1 and 1 30 p.m. Swim races begin at 1 30 p.m. Registration runs 3 30 to 5 30 p.m. Tickets cost 2 75 for adults and 1 50 for children. An Arts and Crafts Festival runs Saturday and Sunday, and Crazy Days sale takes place Saturday with downtown parking restrictions. The city beach drive loop remains closed for the event.

Bomb Found at Lucky Peak Dam Site

A maintenance man found a bomb with a timer at the top of Lucky Peak Dam on the Boise River near Boise. Boise police reported plastic explosives in the device. A bomb squad was dispatched to dismantle it and deputies evacuated the area including Sandy Point swimming spot in a backwater area at the dam base.
