Taxpayers group pushes remove Ada County commissioners

ROSE reports Taxpayers Voice asks Ada County Prosecutor James Risch to pursue removal of county commissioners. Don Rowe says if no action, a formal request will go to the attorney general. The group sought help from Governor Andrus and Idaho AG opinion advised first approaching officials. Risch will review documents, likely taking about two weeks. The group initially charged six Idaho Code statutes and two Constitution sections. more specific charges loom.

Commission Adopts Federal Air Standards in Idaho

Idaho Air Pollution Control Commission adopted federal ambient air quality standards to supersede state rules. It also backed a pollution abatement plan by Potlatch Forests to cut sulfur odor emissions by 83 to 93 percent and particulates by up to 50 percent by 1972, with $5,000 for emission training and a smoke machine trial for enforcement personnel.

Youth Injured In Haying Accident Near Selle

A Sandpoint youth, Rocky Watson 16, was injured Monday when a hay trailer rolled onto his chest eight miles east of town off highway 200 in the Selle area. He is listed in satisfactory condition at Kanner General Hospital. Sheriff Wilcox said Watson slipped between the tractor and trailer while loading hay for Laverne Coon. no ambulance was available and he was taken to hospital in the Fire Chief's car.

Sleeping disease kills 11,000 horses in Mexico and Texas

Mexican and U S health officials launched a coordinated battle against Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis after reports that more than 11 000 horses have died across Mexico and Texas. The disease spreads by mosquitoes and biting flies and has infected humans with flu like symptoms. in horses the fatality rate runs about 80 percent.

IRS Agent Drills Door as Tax Delinquents Locked Out

SANDPOINT Idaho UPD reports Internal Revenue Agent Terry Steele drilled holes in the Greene and Hunt Law Firm door to padlock the office over non payment of federal taxes. An arrest warrant was issued charging him with malicious destruction of private property, but Steele said he would travel to Bonner County on business.

Drowning Named Cause In Spokane Jockey Death

The death of 45 year old Spokane jockey Joel Dick Dumas was ruled an accidental drowning after his car plunged into Granite Lake Saturday morning. Sheriff divers and Dr E R Hasse worked 12 hours to recover the vehicle from a 75 foot lake depth. Final cause awaits sheriff investigations.

Idaho Women’s Commission members led by Treasurer Marjorie Moon tour two labor camps near Melba and Deer Flat south of Nampa. They express frustration with sanitation rent and camp management as they inspect facilities housing Mexican Americans workers facing a slack season and low wages.
