Welch Ranch Turiew Farm Tour Highlighted Christmas Tree Growth
Alfred Welch described his Welch Ranch as the first stop on the Chamber Farm Tour. He now tends over 30 000 trees on 25 acres of his 87 acre property planted since 1961 with J Hoffert Co stock from Montana. Trees take six years to mature and yield through a four year harvest cycle.

Christmas tree farming on sandy soil and ranch innovations
Alfred Welch operates an 87 acre ranch in the Morton area producing Christmas trees on sandy soil with heavy cultivation and water needs. Trees reach six to eight feet and are sold to large buyers in August and September in lots of one to two thousand. Welch also designed equipment to process lodgepole pine into uniform logs for his home construction and runs Welch's Electric on Division Street in Sandpoint.
4 H Camp Proudly Reports Bonner County Event
A total of 149 members and 5 adults attended the 1973 Bonner County 4 H camp at Lake Chatcolet from July 8 to 11. Adults included Rae Nell Van Vleet Myrt Murry Mrs Jan Meneely Jo anne Miller and Raynold Davis. Junior counselors named Mindi McCormick Jacque Meneely Trudy Davaz Mary Kay Delay Monica Travers Alan McNall Susan Chronic Ricky Sauer Cathy Crandell Linda Murray Jeanne Davis Barbara Greenleaf. The theme was Nature Lore and guests Mr and Mrs Leon Thomas of Bonners Ferry led evening programs on Indian artifacts and folklore.
