Recall effort fails to oust Sheriff Wilcox in Idaho

The recall petition deadline passed without filing by 5 p.m. as John V. Strode sought a 30 day extension he was told Idaho law does not allow. Sheriff Wilcox, who faces a $175000 defamation suit with his wife, commented that the matter is now over. A separate probe into missing marijuana from a courthouse storage area followed.

Bee Rates To Change For Daily Bee Home Delivery

Daily Bee home delivery will rise to 2.50 per month effective today due to higher costs. Seniors 65 and totally disabled may receive a 1.00 discount with certification at the Daily Bee office. Certification can be completed in July, preferably in the first 15 days, and gold cards require office presentation.

BCEA Injunction Declined In Bonner County Case

District Court Judge James Towles denied a BCEA request for a preliminary injunction to halt further contracts with certified teachers by School District No 82 while negotiations proceed. The suit also seeks a default judgment in Coeur d'Alene claiming the board failed to answer the original complaint.

Boothe Named to Lead Death Probe in Sandpoint Case

Jack D. Boothe, named by the Idaho Department of Law Enforcement in Boise, to investigate the June 17 death of Gerald R. Brown of Poplar Montana after he was hit by a northbound truck on U S Highway 95 near Colburn. A coroner s inquest ruled death accidental but condemned police conduct, urging further inquiry into actions. Brown had been left hitchhiking by Sandpoint officers. rookie Paul Siem testified he was told to falsify reports.
