Also cited a divorce petition for Roosevelt Grier, 37, and Bernice Grier, 37, filed in Los Angeles after separation.
James C. Space, Supervisory Forester of the Sandpoint Ranger District, is promoted and transferred to the Division of Timber Management in Missoula Montana. The transfer is effective February 8, 1970. Space and his wife Helen and son Todd will relocate to Missoula early in February.
Winds over 50 mph fueled a large fire that devastated Swanton Vermont's three block business district near Lake Champlain. Gov Davis declared a disaster area as Civil Defense crews and firefighters from 25 towns battled from midnight to five hours after. No injuries reported. four apartment buildings evacuated and flames even reached Swanton Lumber Mill.
Funeral services for Wesley B Stevens will be Saturday January 1 1970 at Moon Chapel with Reverend Orville Grorud of First Lutheran Church officiating Interment at Seneacquoteen Cemetery Stevens 54 died Tuesday January 27 in a Spokane hospital Born August 15 1915 in Laclede Idaho he grew up there and graduated from Priest River High School He owned Laclede Garage then Clacks Auto Court in Sandpoint later Stevens Auto Supply in Ione WA He retired in 1967 returning to Sandpoint Survivors include daughter Sandy Martin of Sandpoint two brothers Lloyd of Laclede Howard of Salt Lake City and sister Irene Gray of Newport WA
Funeral services for Charles W. Lambert 80 will be held Friday at Moon Chapel with Lakeside Lodge No. 42 AF&AM officiating. Graveside rites at Lakeview Cemetery conducted by Reverend Clarence E. Twigg. Survived by five sisters four nephews and two nieces. Memorials to the donor's choice or First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
Governor Ronald Reagan criticized his daughter Maureen after she said she no longer believes a military victory is needed in South Vietnam. Maureen Reagan, a USO singer, had told a San Diego club she once supported victory but now doubts its necessity. Reagan said foreign policy should not be set by entertainers.
Cub Scout Pack 120 announces that the Thursday January 29 meeting is postponed to Thursday February 5.
New York Jerry Hendren was drafted in the fourth round by the Denver Broncos after a standout Idaho career. The Spokane native set multiple Idaho records with 95 receptions for 1457 yards as a senior and 230 career receptions for 3435 yards and 27 touchdowns. He started 63 straight games and earned all star honors in the All America and Senior Bowls.
Community groups in Sandpoint announce upcoming meetings and events. The Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship hosts a dinner Friday January 30 at Trainers Restaurant with Dr. Robert Frost as speaker. Other groups host meetings February 2 and 3, with various programs and guest welcomes.

Ten team members of the University of Idaho Alpine and Nordic ski team depart for the Intercollegiate Ski Championships in Banff January 30 to February 1 with seven Alpine and three Nordic competitors.
