County Appoints Public Defender In Bonner County

The Bonner County Court appoints Nick Lamanna of Priest River as Public Defender replacing the old system. Lamanna sworn in at 10 a.m. Monday with an annual budget of 19000 dollars covering salary secretary postage and travel. He will represent felonies misdemeanors youth rehabilitation child protection and mental illness cases with prosecutors and city attorneys handling prosecutions. County Commissioner Harold Anselmo led the move after three years of work and noted bids will be sought for a two year term.

Street Sign Plans Told

An estimated 80 new street signs will be installed by the Sandpoint Jaycees this spring said project chairman Wade Brown. The program, begun two years ago with city funding, adds to about 35 signs installed last year and targets busy streets including Pine and Boyer in the Dover highway area. Delays in sign material orders set back the project three times, with an order expected four months ago finally arriving.

Minor injuries in Farm to Market Road crash near Colburn

Idaho State Police report an accident Friday one mile east of Colburn on the Farm to Market Road. Nancy A. Adkisson 26 of Samuels crossed left of center and struck Richard A. Baron 26 of Sandpoint head on. Baron's passenger Andree P. Chapot 26 of Martinez Calif was injured. Three Adkisson passengers, all children, were not hurt.

The official acts include the creation of a new public defender office and the appointment of Thomas E. Cooke as Deputy Public Defender forming a two person team to handle cases and build an enduring foundation for the office.

Sandpoint Sewage Plant Not Affected By 1983 Rules

Engineering firm Futrell Redford and Saxton says Sandpoint's new wastewater facility, designed for secondary treatment, will not require tertiary upgrades by 1983 due to dilution effects. Weather Causes Widespread Hazards and School Closures

Bonner County schools will remain closed tomorrow due to hazardous conditions from prolonged rain and heavy snowfall. 40 to 50 minor accidents occurred as buses faced travel difficulties across the county. Roads including Highway 95 and 200 were reported hazardous, rock slides noted between Priest River and Laclede, and Schweitzer Basin ski area was closed by snow and wind.

Vandalism and Burglary Hit Sandpoint Weekend

Vandals and burglars struck the Sandpoint area over the weekend breaking off antennas from five vehicles on the Alpine Motor Co. lot. Sandpoint Ranger Station reports the gas pump lock broken with 16 to 20 gallons stolen. Five cases of beer were taken from Eller Distributing after burglars forced the loading dock.
