Idaho Commission Moves to Weekday Big Game Openings

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission ends weekend openings for big game hunts adopting fixed opening dates across units. North Idaho units 4, 9, 7 and others begin Oct 1 or Nov 1, while southern Idaho hunts start Oct 15. Nonresident deer and elk tag quotas are set at 9,500 each, down from last year.

Sandpoint Ice Rink Could Be Run by Civic Club

A Sandpoint city councilman urged that a civic club take over maintaining the Pine Street park ice rink to relieve the city during heavy snow duties. He noted two options: club ownership or assigning Bob Linsday to manage the rink, with the city ready to support. Lions and Kiwanis leaders said they would discuss the idea at upcoming meetings with mixed views on maintenance duties.

In Spokane UPI report landowners near Priest River Idaho fear land restrictions if the Priest and Moyie Rivers join the Wild and Scenic Rivers System. About 75 residents attended a Forest Service meeting while officials explained studies and possible scenic easements.

Trustee Accuses Truby Action Over SEPARS Plan

Idaho state school Trustee Janet Hay accused Superintendent Roy Truby of going behind board members to undermine the SEPARS program at an open board meeting. Truby said his approach differed because the information system would fall under the State Board Office rather than the Department of Education.
