3 Day County League Tourney Opens at Sandpoint High
The County League basketball tournament begins at Sandpoint High School with four junior games on opening night led by Idaho Hill versus Sandpoint Junior High at 6 p.m. Kootenai meets Priest Lake and Northside faces Southside followed by Clark Fork versus Priest River. Semifinals and finals set for Thursday with trophies for top three and awards for consolation and sportsmanship.

Two ski instructors faced a four foot by 250 yard avalanche at Schweitzer Basin while testing safety after 18 inches of new snow. Glenn A. Phillips was buried about 20 minutes before rescue and treated for bruises and strains. John Pucci escaped with minor injuries and returned to skiing.

Wenatchee Apple Blossom Queen finalist named
Kathleen Pobst, a former Sand Point resident and Eastmont High School senior, is one of ten finalists for Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival Queen. The queen and court will be chosen February 17 in Wenatchee, with festivities in early May. Pobst is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Pobst and has been General Manager of the local General Telephone Co office and the first Schweitzer Ski School director.

Wharton Sentenced to Three Months in Jail
Charles R. Wharton, 20, Sand Point, Spokane, pled guilty to possession of dangerous drugs. Superior Court Judge William H. Williams sentenced him to three months in jail as a condition of three years probation after police found four LSD pills in his hotel room following a hotel employee call.
