The Jaycees awarded area outstanding people at their Annual Distinguished Service Award Banquet held in the Pastime Panhandle Room. Dr. E Wayne Likens district 82 superintendent gave the guest address stressing lifelong learning and the qualities of effective teachers and communicators.
Assisting principal Richard Ostrum narrowly escaped harm after Pat Keane a 17 year old student carried two live bombs to safety Keane drove to Lake Pend Oreille and threw the devices onto the ice before alerting authorities The 15 year old suspect was arrested and faced charges for recklessly endangering another person A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday with the student suspended for the semester and another youth from the Sagle area released without charges
Boise lawmakers push to send the criminal code repealer back to judiciary for amendments after a 38 to 32 vote. Rep Ed Hedges cites delaying concerns and aims to craft fixes before voting again. Critics warn the tactic could kill the measure while supporters call it necessary to refine the code.
The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce announces a Tuesday February 15 event at the Elks Club. Chamber President Ken Pratt says a telephone direct line to the Idaho Legislature will be amplified for an open Q and A session with representatives. The annual program is a popular member event.
