The Jaycees awarded area outstanding people at their Annual Distinguished Service Award Banquet held in the Pastime Panhandle Room. Dr. E Wayne Likens district 82 superintendent gave the guest address stressing lifelong learning and the qualities of effective teachers and communicators.

Assisting principal Richard Ostrum narrowly escaped harm after Pat Keane a 17 year old student carried two live bombs to safety Keane drove to Lake Pend Oreille and threw the devices onto the ice before alerting authorities The 15 year old suspect was arrested and faced charges for recklessly endangering another person A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday with the student suspended for the semester and another youth from the Sagle area released without charges
