Elliot Heads to Boise for Police Standards Meeting

Sandpoint Police Chief George Elliot announced he will travel to Boise on Friday February 12 to attend a Police Officers Standards Advisory Council meeting. The council, chaired by Elliot, will review candidates for the Director of the Police Academy in Pocatello and award advanced certifications to officers meeting qualifications.

University students design Sandpoint urban plan project

A 117 member junior design class from the University of Idaho will work Feb 23 27 in Sandpoint to study urban problems. Financed by the city, the project focuses on the central business district and Lake Pend Oreille waterfront with plans to re route U S 95. Three teams will operate on different tentative budgets for short term to expansive improvements.

Blacks Demand Free City Bus Ride Action Stirs Tension

In Philadelphia center city BEDC members led by Executive Director Muhammed Kenyatta boarded a bus and insisted on free rides. The driver threatened arrest, police arrived, and the seven protesters exited as the bus departed.

Priest River Policeman Charged with Assault and Battery

Priest River Police Chief Jim Holman was arrested on a charge of assault and battery filed by Eugene Spring. He pleaded not guilty in Magistrate Court, bond originally set at $500, reduced to $250, and was released to his attorney Fred Kondo. The incident allegedly occurred Feb. 6 while Holman was off duty.

Eight New Members Appointed To Federal Land Laws Commission

Idaho Governor Cecil D. Andrus reorganized the Idaho Commission on Federal land laws by naming eight new members and retaining only Bob Doolittle of Priest Lake as the sole veteran.
