Fire destroys IGA Market and liquor store in Sandpoint
Fire reported at 2:15 a.m. Sunday destroyed the IGA Market and adjacent state liquor store in Sandpoint. Flames spread behind a false ceiling. by 3:15 a.m. the building was a total loss. Damage estimates reach 475,000 with separate losses from the liquor shop and the rare bottle collection. Police investigated break-ins at related businesses though no direct fire link established.

Fourteen North Idaho Junior College sophomores were named to the 1970 Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges today. Those cited by the selection committee included Larry Van Rossum of Sandpoint. Larry's mother, Bessie Van Rossum, is also a student at tending NIJC. Final selection to Who's Who came after candidates were approved by the national office in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Each student's name and a biographical sketch will appear in the 1970 edition.

Elliot Elected POST Chairman In Idaho
Boise police chief George Elliot of Sandpoint was elected chairman of the Peace Officers Standards and Training Advisory Council. Bannock County Sheriff H. E. Parker of Pocatello was named vice chairman. The group met at Idaho State University with 33 officers attending the first Idaho Peace Officers Academy. The next academy class is set for March 227 and classroom hours will drop from 225 to 219.
