Plan prompts opposition to Comprehensive Plan in Sandpoint

A continuation of last month’s public hearing on Sandpoint’s Comprehensive Plan sparked controversy and at least two more meetings. Attendees criticized copies availability and argued the plan could advance metro government and infringe property rights. Local residents varied in stance with some supporting growth measures and others opposing the plan in full.

Umbrella Bicentennial Group Formed in Sandpoint

A tentative Sandpoint bicentennial umbrella group was formed to establish a county wide Commission for projects marking the nation's birthday. J M Neil of the Idaho Bicentennial Commission outlined goals while Tom Lockhart was elected temporary chairman. The group aims to unify Bonner County into a spokes body and pursues projects from Cataldo Mission restoration to oral history efforts. The next meeting is scheduled in the Washington Water Power building.

Council Considers Comprehensive Plan After Public Meeting

The Idaho Covered Wagon arrives at Round Lake State Park March 14 to 17 as the first bicentennial event in the area. The wagon, part of a state tour, proceeds toward 1976 Pennsylvania with stops along Oregon Trail routes. Volunteers escort the wagon and collect citizen scrolls to honor founding principles.

Bunker Hill Moves To Stop Metal Seepage At Pond

Bunker Hill Co. reports steps are in place to halt zinc and cadmium seepage from a settling pond into the Coeur d'Alene River near Kellogg Idaho. James Halley says the pond perimeter system began last year and aims to seal leaks, while tests show a 60 percent drop in particulate emissions in late 1974 and a baghouse capturing over 95 percent of particulates.

Idaho unemployment hits 7.3 percent in January
