He defends the 1975 land use law and asserts any changes will preserve local control while projecting fiscally responsible government and preserved quality of life through Idaho’s bicentennial year.

A Sandpoint area couple John and Irene Cerney sue the Sandpoint City Council and Mayor for 2500 each plus 1800 damages seeking a water hookup for their home. They allege the council arbitrarily denied their hookup despite prior assurances and payment. They claim the city routinely serves customers outside the city limits and seek a writ ordering a hookup or a show cause hearing.

The Idaho Attorney General’s office probes possible violation of a new conflict law as twelve of twenty three commissioners report abstaining from votes over possible conflicts.
Idaho Congressman Steve Symms announced January town meetings in 19 First District communities including Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry. The sessions aim to hear residents’ concerns in a loose format, with about two hours per meeting.
Snow slick streets caused three Christmas Eve crashes in Sandpoint per Idaho State Police reports. Over the weekend two hit and runs were blamed on slush with several parked cars damaged on Walnut Street Second Street and Pine Street. Estimated damages ranged from 100 to 1300 dollars with no serious injuries reported.
