Phone bills to drop as wartime tax recedes
General Telephone Co of the Northwest announced that beginning January 1 1975 a temporary wartime tax on telephone service will fall from 8 percent to 7 percent. The tax, collected by phone companies for the government, started at 10 percent and will be reduced by 1 percent annually until eliminated in December 1982.
