Three Judges to Hear Agnew Disbarment Case
A Maryland Court of Appeals panel will hear arguments today from former Vice President Spiro Agnew over a Maryland Bar Association bid to discipline him for professional misconduct. Leon H A Pierson, Agnew’s lawyer, says Agnew will appear for the hearing. the panel will then forward its recommendation to the appellate court for a final ruling. The bar argues Agnew’s Oct 10 plea of no contest to a tax evasion charge shows misconduct and conduct prejudicial to justice. Agnew counters his resignation day plea cannot justify disbarment. The bar has not proposed a specific disciplinary action.
