Girl Scouts Aid Lions Toy Drive Preview at New Farmin School

Twelve girls from Girl Scout Troops 43 and 202 posed for a preview photo showcasing aprons tote bags and books for the Toys For Tots project. The drive started in late November and ends Thursday with a Lions Club presentation at New Farmin School. Troop 43 has 22 members and Troop 202 has 29 members. dues in December fund new gifts for teens. Adult leaders are named for both troops.

Smokers Quit At Higher Rate In Late 1960s

A government survey shows about 2.5 million cigarette smokers gave up between 1966 and 1968. Smokers of all ages and both sexes quit, while 17 to 24 year olds with no prior smoking increased. The National Center for Health Statistics released the findings using Census Bureau data, noting 38 percent smoked in 1968, down from 1966 by five percentage points.

Tot Breaks Elbow In Fall In Sandpoint

Tonya Howell six, daughter of Patty and Chet Howell Jr., of Sandpoint, is at Kootenai Memorial Hospital in Coeur d Alene with a fractured elbow after falling from a high chair while helping sister Larisa twenty months. The break is severe. her arm is in traction with a pin. The pin and traction are to be removed just before Christmas and the arm placed in a cast for at least three more weeks.

Lewiston Annexes Orchards Making Fourth Largest Idaho City

Lewiston City Council voted to annex neighboring Lewiston Orchards ending a five year fight. The move raises Lewiston's population to about 24 300 placing it behind Boise Pocatello and Idaho Falls. A recall petition by Orchards residents was announced by Howard Jepson who leads the Orchards Community Project.

Sandpoint Varsity Beats Kellogg In Wrestling Meet

Sandpoint high school defeated Kellogg 33 to 21 in varsity action at Sandpoint Senior High Gym last Saturday. Individual results include several pins and decisions with Sandpoint leading the scoring. preliminary JV also favored Sandpoint 28 to 20. Sandpoint hosts Wallace tonight with weigh-ins at 6 p.m.

Businessmen Ski Classes Set at Schweitzer Basin

Schweitzer Basin will offer businessmen skiing again this year with added incentives. Al Voltz reports on plans for Thursday classes starting Jan 8 and a Ladies Day on Jan 6, with rates of 15 dollars for six lessons for season ticket holders and 38 dollars for non-ticket holders. A junior skip school for children eight and under starts Saturdays and Sundays in January.
