Suit contesting retroactive Idaho gas tax increase

Boise district court judge in Fourth District took under advisement a suit by seven oil companies and a consumer intervenor challenging Idaho’s 14 cent per gallon gas tax hike as retroactive to April 1. Plaintiffs say the law became effective July 1 only. they seek return of funds collected before July 1. Durtschi questioned the emergency clause’s meaning while noting its constitutional presence.

Line Mishap Triggers Sandpoint Outage Across PP&L Lines

A Wednesday blackout in Sandpoint followed a break on the Post Falls to Newport line owned by Pacific Power and Light. Bert Leonard said the line loss caused separation at Albeni Falls, with power shifted to Washington Water Power sources at Cabinet Gorge. Loads were restored in Sandpoint in seven to eleven minutes, while the Prairie River outage required longer due to switching time.

BYU physics researchers photographed a daylight fireball over southwestern Utah on August 20. Dr. Harold McNamara reports the meteorite spanned about a quarter mile wide and one mile long, with brightness between the moon and the sun, last seen over midwestern Canada.

Fire at Bennie Brewer home leaves family of eight homeless

A fire at 1104 Main in Sandpoint destroyed the upper floor and roof of the Bennie A. Brewer residence. About 20 firefighters fought the blaze in freezing weather for three hours. The family lost all belongings and needs clothing and food. Toys and Other Essentials for Tots will collect donations.
