Health Insurance Plan Outlined for 1975 Start
The Nixon administration plans a national health insurance program to begin in 1975, funded by about 150 dollars per family annually plus 25 percent of costs above that up to 1,500 dollars. Private insurers would cover catastrophic costs, with federal subsidies of about four billion dollars yearly. The plan excludes self employed and uses private carriers under federal supervision.

Last Sunday Senate Session Returns to 1861 Slavery Debate
Washington reports that the Senate met on a Sunday for the first time since March 3 1861 when Abraham Lincoln was about to be sworn in as president. The session discussed John J. Crittenden of Kentucky’s compromise to protect slavery and compensate owners while extending the Missouri Compromise to the Pacific. No action was taken and the day’s only major business was replacing the sergeant at arms after a quorum dispute. The compromise failed the next day as the Civil War began.
