Temperature at 7 30 a m measured 26 degrees with light snow falling. Eight inches of new snow since Sunday brings total to about 20 inches. Chairlifts operate as the area remains open daily.
The Las Vegas casino reports in its annual statement for the year ending July 31 that it is having trouble collecting markers from gamblers. It lists 23.5 million owed in doubtful accounts as a sign of rising economic strain among bettors.
Mostly cloudy conditions in Sandpoint with scattered snow showers likely through Thursday. A 50 percent chance of snow continues, with daytime highs around 35 and overnight lows near 25.
The Sandpoint Kiwanis Club hosts an annual Turkey Shoot on Sunday December 6 at the Sandpoint Gun Club four miles south of Sandpoint on U.S. 95 Gun Club Road. Proceeds aid Bonner County Youth Projects with a muzzle loading rifle prizes and a live goose awarded to top shooter. Members of the Pend Oreille Muzzle-Loading Club will demo and host events with participants from Montana and Washington in the first event since the group formed in Sandpoint.
Gov Don W Samuelson said he has received offers for jobs after leaving office in January and wants to aid Western states including Idaho He will decide between February and March and has bought a home in Boise Samuelson formerly served three terms in the Idaho Legislature from Bonner County and Sandpoint was his prior home
The Sandpoint Elks Club called for elk and deer hides to aid the Idaho State Elks Rehabilitation Center in Boise. Hides accepted through December 7 at the Sandpoint Elks Club or via Ralph Moore, 263-3079. Priested River collection via Gregory Hardward store or Bob Krause.
Santa Claus arrives in Sandpoint this Saturday with help from the Sandpoint Jaycees and a snowmobile. He will be at the Sandpoint Community Hall at 11 a.m. to hand out candy and plans a drive along First Avenue for local children to see him.
Trans World Airlines plans layoff 170 pilots, bringing total pilot cuts to 570 since April. The carrier also cut 2,000 ground employees last month. Seventy five pilots will be released December 30 and 80 on March 1.
Rex E. Brantley, 49, died Tuesday while protecting a $65,000 Wells Fargo shipment to Sears Roebuck in Macon Georgia. He wrestled with six gunmen, one possibly taking his weapon, as a partner, T. E. Prescott, waited downstairs. Two women were hit by ricochets.
