Leon Atkinson, head of a guitar department and organizer of the Classical Guitar Guild, brings a concert to Panida Theater in Sandpoint. The internationally known guitarist studied with Andres Segovia, taught at Harlem School of the Arts, and plans a Master Class series at North Idaho College.

Idaho Board approves permanent campus alcohol ban

The State Board of Education in Boise voted to permanently prohibit alcohol on Idaho university and college campuses effective Dec 21, after hearings. The action, taken without comment from attendees, also raises student fee by $6 per semester at the University of Idaho to fund activities and recreation. Rexburg's Clint Hoopes dissented, criticizing mid year fee changes.

Sandpoint Seeks Veto Power in City Impact Area

Bonner County Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 7 30 p m at the courthouse to consider Sandpoint’s request for veto power over variances and conditional use permits within the city impact area. The agenda includes subdivision reviews and use permits near Chase Lake Kootenai Vay Garfield Bay and Dover along with a proposed Westside Fire District station. Public comment will be invited on the impact plan and related zoning actions.

Hearings Set For Pacific Northwest Electric Power Act

Hearings on the Pacific Northwest Electric Power Supply and Conservation Act will be held Monday at 8 a.m. in the Ridpath Hotel Spokane. The bill aims to provide a regional solution to the Northwest energy shortage amid BPA constraints and reallocation of power as contracts expire between 1981 and 1995. Local officials, utilities, and industrial customers back the act to avoid interstate power disputes and stabilize regional energy planning.
