Washington Water Power seeks gas rate increase
Washington Water Power Company asks the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission and Idaho Public Utilities Commission to permit higher natural gas rates to cover El Paso Natural Gas Company wholesale cost increases. President Wendell J. Satre said the change would apply to all mass consumption from October 1, raising the typical residential bill about 38 cents per month. WWP serves about 66 000 consumers in over 50 eastern Washington and northern Idaho communities.

St Joe River uses strict rules to protect cutthroat trout
In a regional update journalist Jack McNeel notes that the St Joe River regulations restrict trout to three fish per day above Prospector Creek with a 13 inch minimum, bait fishing banned, while below Prospector Creek the general 10 fish daily limit applies. The policy aims to protect spawning-size cutthroats following Idaho University surveys and years of dwindling numbers. A tagging program will track movement from upper to lower river as fisheries management pursues a balanced, quality fishery with public cooperation.
