The 50th annual Bonner County Fair begins at noon Thursday August 26 with exhibit entries on Tuesday and Wednesday. The schedule features a 4 H dog show, a style show themed Sunday Reminiscence, and awards at 7 p.m. The fair highlights include king and queen crowning, talent showcases, and the Fat Stock sale moving to Friday night with 4 H style show Saturday. Entries mailed must be postmarked by August 27 and post entries cost 2.00 per class.

Outboard Motor Thefts Hit Priest Lake Boaters
A spate of boat motor thefts hit Priest Lake over the August weekend. Victims include Fred C Brotherson of Cottonwood Arizona and J Bartlett Kelly of Spokane, reporting 9.9 and 6 horsepower losses at Barrier's Resort and Granite Creek Resort. A Gerald P Adkins of Moscow and others reported additional 6 horsepower and 25 horsepower models stolen, with values ranging from 500 to 770 dollars. Separate burglaries in Sandpoint and Hope yielded a television and a large sum in stolen goods, while a residence at Priest Lake reported about 4000 dollars in losses and Taft's Variety in Sandpoint reported a stolen chainsaw.

A 65 year old Odessa man Marion A Fredricks received minor injuries when the car he rode in with Cheryl A Newhan Beach North Dakota was rear hit by a second vehicle driven by Daron Lee Fredricks St Route Hope. Damages were about 300 to Newhan and 250 to Fredricks. No citations were issued and Fredricks sought his own treatment. In a separate incident on West Eden Bay Road Craig M Lewis Sandpoint hit a trailer driven by Jack W Yaryan Hope, causing about 1200 damage to Lewis vehicle which went into a ditch and hit a culvert. No injuries or citations reported.

Accidentalist shot during Algoma area target practice
A man identified as Mark Gronley, 18, was shot in the arm by a bullet from a .357 Magnum held by Dale Pitts, 20, during a Saturday evening target practice near Algoma. Pitts was reloading when the gun discharged. Gronley is listed in good condition at Bonner General Hospital. Deputy Sam Landrum confirmed the incident as accidental and said two other men were present.

Two Charged With Raising Pot In Lightning Creek Raid
Deputies arrested Charles D. Spencer and Paul Leslie Spenser after a Friday morning raid at a Lightning Creek residence. They were charged with cultivation of marijuana and released on their own recognizance. About 50 plants ranged from three to ten feet were confiscated.
