WWP Denies Nuclear Site Studies in Sandpoint Bonners Ferry Area

Wendell J. Satre of the Washington Water Power Co. dispels rumors that the utility is conducting studies for a nuclear power station in the Sandpoint Bonners Ferry region or hiring firms for such work. He says the company is informally surveying a coal fired plant feasibility within its Eastern Washington and North Idaho service area and outlines planned participation in various plants to meet future demand. The company plans a fifth unit at Noxon Rapids to boost winter peak capacity.

Hearing Set for East Hope and Hope Sewer District

District Court orders a hearing on the petition to form the East Hope and Hope Sewer District. The petition, filed yesterday, is signed by 46 area property owners. The hearing is set for September 16 at 1 30 p.m.

Ravenscroft Attacks St Joe River Wild Designation

Vernon Ravenscroft a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor voiced strong opposition at a Forest Service hearing on designating the St Joe River in North Idaho as a wild river. He warned federal control would threaten state ownership and water rights. Other witnesses criticized backing of including the system and noted tax dollars support land sales.

Moose Dinner Tuesday Night Draws Local Sportsmen

The Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association hosts its annual Moose Dinner at the Community Hall Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 30 pm. Nearly 300 people expected. menu features moose meat roasts and moose salami with raffles including a Winchester rifle and a guided Moose Hunt in British Columbia for two in seven days. Ticket holders can win the hunt. non ticket price for dinner is 2 50 with children 1. Registration Schedules Told for Sandpoint Schools

Sandpoint High and Junior High announce registration windows for new and returning students. High School new students may register this week at the office with specific daily hours, and lockers will be assigned Aug 28 to 30 by grade. Activities tickets go on sale Aug 28 at $6.50. New junior high students may register on Aug 22 and 23, with returning students picking up schedules Aug 28.
