Sandpoint Ballerina Studied In Europe

Sandpoint ballet teacher Lynne Davison returned from a four week European study tour including Copenhagen and London. She studied with notable instructors from the Royal Danish Ballet and Diaghilev Ballets Russes, explored Bournonville technique, Cecchetti method, and Baroque dances. Davison aims to apply insights to Sandpoint School of the Ballet.

J C Penney Company will expand its catalog program to Idaho starting August 17 with catalog departments opening in ten stores in Blackfoot Boise Burley Idaho Falls Jerome Nampa Montpelier Pocatello Rupert and Twin Falls. The ten locations mark the first phase of the expansion.

Louisiana-Pacific Wins Timber Bid at Molar Creek Sale

Louisiana-Pacific Corporation of Moyie Springs Idaho won the Molar Creek Timber Sale 1739 at oral auction held Friday August 12 by the Idaho Department of Lands Area Supervisor Michael C Reed. The lone bidder paid the appraised value of 12727.50. The sale included a major cedar volume.

Laclede Bond Election Passes by Wide Margin

Voters in Laclede approved a water bond measure Tuesday by 92 to 5 votes. The about 207000 match from a federal grant will fund a complete water system for the district including a pumping station a filter plant storage tanks and lines.

Mt Casey Blaze Grows Near Schweitzer Basin

A forest fire on Mt Casey five miles northwest of Schweitzer Basin has expanded to about 80 acres with 80 firefighters and a nearby 15 acre blaze along Keokee Creek. bulldozers and air dropped retardant aid efforts while no homes are reported endangered though officials warn sizes could rise.

Hoot-Owl Rules In Effect State and Federal Officials

Federal and state officials impose Hoot-Owl shift for loggers with mandatory shutdown of all chainsaws and skidding by 1 pm PDT daily. The partial closure covers state federal and private lands. loading hauling road work may continue but require two hours post shift inspection. Fire restrictions include no campfires without permits and smoking bans in forested areas.

States Favored In Land Decisions

Interior Secretary Cecil D Andrus told the Idaho Land Board he tends to favor the Bureau of Land Management plan to cut 8 000 acres of in lieu lands near Island Park by 6 000 acres to protect elk herds wilderness access and other environmental concerns He noted the state must seek maximum value for the public school endowment fund but said other acreages could replace Island Park if suitable and not opposed by groups Roy Truby and Gordon Trombley discussed selecting 30 000 acres east of Coeur d Alene but had not yet presented it to the land board Attorney General Wayne Kidwell urged more study on the proposal and questioned Andrus retirement from controversy over cottage site leases at Heyburn State Park.
