Sandpoint council rejects zone change request and approves variance
The Sandpoint City Council voted three to two against rezoning Blocks eight and nine from Residential A to commercial in the central business district. They granted a commercial variance to Frank Chapin for lots nine and ten in block eight, pending legality. Council members Brown and Spearman opposed the plan, with Brown also opposing the variance and urging green belt legislation. The Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended denial of variances. The meeting also covered two sewage treatment plant plans with costs of about 1.16 million dollars and 799 thousand dollars respectively, plus ongoing maintenance, as efforts to qualify for federal funds proceed.
