Two Sandpoint Men Injured When Train Hits Auto

Two Sandpoint men were injured Saturday morning when their vehicle stalled on a Burlington Northern crossing near Kamloops Resort Access Road. Ronald C. Bourassa, 30, drove into the train’s path after attempting to back up, while passenger Rocky Mattison suffered minor injuries. Bourassa remained hospitalized in satisfactory condition. no citations were issued.

Fire sensing study approved for Bonner County schools

The Board of Trustees of School District 82 authorized Gordon E. Ross & Associates of Spokane to conduct a no cost study on installing fire sensing and alarm devices in the two Bonner County schools under construction. The plan aims to improve early warning amid rising insurance costs and vandalism concerns.

Football Gear Distribution At Sandpoint High

Coach Ken Beaudbin announced gear and uniforms will be issued this Saturday at Sandpoint Senior High. Lettermen report 9 00 a m Seniors and Juniors 9 30 a m and sophomores 10 00 a m. A short neat haircut and a completed physical exam before first practice on Monday August 17 are required.

Council Backs End to Open Burning and zoning changes

At the Sandpoint City meeting officials moved to implement Idaho Air Pollution Control rules effective September 21, 1970 prohibiting open burning and mandating disposal of combustible material by occupants. The council also authorized a one year lease with P I Woodworking for experimental farm property and accepted a $120 donation from Injectors Auto Club for a city beach basketball club. A zoning hearing addressed mobile home allowances in Zones B and C with no speakers.
