Abourezk Seeks End to Senate Job Discrimination
Senator James Abourezk calls Congress to end what he calls the ultimate hypocrisy by banning discrimination for others while practices remain for Senate staff. The Capitol Hill Women’s Caucus cites stagnant pay gaps, with 58 percent and then 56 percent ratios of women to men in median salaries over time, and proposes an independent enforcement body before Oct. 1. A 1974 survey shows women earning far less than men, while a West Berlin train incident and flood damage across Poland, Bavaria, and Austria are reported, along with a birth notice for Brian Wayne Coon in Santa Fe California.
