Battle Creek Fire Taps Pacific Northwest Fire Crews
Special crews from the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain states were mobilized to battle the Battle Creek fire near Sandpoint. A Class I overhead fire team directed operations with 550 to 600 personnel by Saturday afternoon, coordinating seven fire sectors and multiple crews including hot shots, smokejumpers, and logging teams. The effort highlighted the warlike scale of forest firefighting and the need for trained, multiagency cooperation.
