Arts and Crafts Festival and Beach Barbecue Draw Sandpoint Crowd
Throngs packed downtown Sandpoint and City Beach for a two day Arts and Crafts Festival and Lions Beach Barbecue. Ninety five booths showcased art and crafts with fifteen percent of sales aiding the Bonner County Historical Society museum fund. Beach activities included horseshoes, volleyball, swimming contests, and a large barbecue serving 850 pounds of beef. Open singles champion was Jim Weisz of Sandpoint with Cox and Pederson winning doubles. Crazy Daze sales drew large crowds despite First Avenue closure plans and minor traffic hiccups.

States to Meet in Coeur d'Alene on Chinook and Steelhead Dispute
Representatives from Idaho Washington and Oregon will convene in Coeur d Alene next week to pursue a settlement of the dispute over apportionment of returning Chinook and steelhead without going to trial. Idaho filed a suit with the U S Supreme Court claiming the Gem State shares of these adults returning from the ocean. U S Circuit Judge Jean Bielaj is acting as special master and Breitenstein was named to set procedures with a hearing slated for June 29 in Denver.

August 30 Slated As Next Levy Date

Two Sandpoint residents arrested on drug charges
Stephan Van DenBerg aged 26 and David E. Shultz aged 26 were arrested separately Friday on cultivation of a controlled substance charges. Shultz was released on his own recognizance while Van DenBerg is held on 1500 dollars bond. Harold L. Salle aged 19 of Priest River was arrested Sunday for possession of a controlled substance with a 300 dollar bond. George A. Holland aged 28 of Priest River was charged with driving while intoxicated and posted 300 dollar bond.

Van Destroyed In Fire Near Pine Street Loop Intersection
A Volkswagen van used as a trailer was destroyed by a blaze Friday as owner Bradley Goldrich tried to start it. Northside firefighters battled flames for about 45 minutes in a driveway near the Pine Street Loop Baldy Road intersection. Goldrich, an Oregon resident, had just arrived in the Sand Point area the day before.
