Shed fire cuts power and phone lines in Bonner County
A shed fire at 905 Church Street damaged a 500-pair cable serving about 900 General Telephone customers in Bonner County. Fire Chief Wade Brown said bad attic wiring started the blaze, confined to attic and roof. Five firemen fought the fire. five company crewmen replaced the damaged cable, restoring some service to nearby areas by dawn.

Preliminary For Stever Held Wednesday
Magistrate Judge Don Swanstrom heard evidence in a preliminary hearing for John Henry Stever of Sandpoint on an attempted murder charge. The judge will rule if Stever should be bound over for trial after evidence was presented, including testimony from Sheriff Robert Wilcox and deputies Rice and Hare and Frank Kennemar, plus tape recordings. Stever was released on a $5,000 bond after its reduction from $100,000.

Seattle Youth Injured By Memorial Field Pitching Machine
A Seattle student, 14 year old Jerry Mikesell, arrived to visit his grandmother in Sandpoint when struck on the head by a two and a half foot arm of an automatic pitching machine at Memorial Field. He is listed in critical condition at St Luke’s Memorial Hospital Spokane after initial treatment at Bonner General Hospital. Police Chief George Elliot reported two youths alerted a Sandpoint resident to the accident.
