Sandoval Community High School gym drew near capacity on April 22 for an FFA donkey basketball fundraiser. In the opener the Dads beat the FFA team 14 to 8, then the FFA relief squad topped Lions Club 16 to 8 for a lively event featuring playful donkeys and mock celebrity riders.
The Monroe Bros Circus, known as the big little show, comes to Sandoval on Saturday May 3 with two performances at 2 30 and 8 00 pm. Twenty acts include wire walkers jugglers contortionists trapeze acts and trained animals led by the Great LaVelda troupe Miss Christine Captain Monroe and a host of colorful attractions. The tent will be west of Meridith's Fruit Market and officials promise it will show as advertised.
Congratulations are extended to the Basola family of Sandoval for a six pound five ounce son born at St Marys hospital on April 26. Mr and Mrs Schaubert of Shattuc welcome a seven pound four ounce son born at St Marys hospital on April 28. Mr and Mrs Cramer of Sandoval celebrate an eight pound daughter born at home on April 30 with grandparents listed. Mr and Mrs Mulvaney of Sandoval announce a daughter Donna June born at St Marys hospital on April 20. grandparents Bill Day and others noted. mother and baby later home and both doing well.
The Sandoval-Odin News announces free theatre passes for listed guests and family members. Passes must be collected at the News office in Sandoval for dates May 2 through May 8 featuring plays such as The Man from Rainbow Valley and Tomorrow Is Forever.
The Altar Sodality of St. Lawrence Church Sandoval met in the parish hall on Wednesday afternoon Apr 24 with hostesses Mrs Bettina Giovannini Mrs Florence Alitadonna and Mrs Ethel Gilbert. Gifts were presented to numerous members including Miss Loretta Schmacher Sister Mary Caroline and many others. Out of town guests included Mrs Mary Madlinger and Mrs Katherine Schleuter of St Louis and Mrs Stein of Centralia. Refreshments of fruit salad cake and coffee were served.

Regular Ameri can Auxiliary Post 995 meeting held at the Legion Hall on April 23 with twenty one members present. Discussions covered sewing for wounded veterans and members offered homes for a sewing circle. Donations of muslin and patterns cut. Refreshments and entertainment followed. Next meeting set for May 14 at Legion Hall.
Rep. Charles W. Vursell and House Republicans push through a major labor bill by 308 to 107. It outlaws the closed shop, bans nationwide bargaining, and enacts union shop rules with 30 day joiners, plus anti strike and anti trust provisions.

Potato producers with under three acres may join the 1947 Price Support Program though goals are not set. Notify the county office before June 1 to participate. Larger producers must meet acreage goals or fall under limited eligibility.
A capacity crowd filled SCHS auditorium for the three act senior class play Dotty and Daffy on Friday April 25. The ensemble was led by Miss Evelyn Johnson with a cast including Jackie Adams Bill Wheeler Jessie Lou Adams Beverly Skipper Helen Parker Betty Weidle Donald Lee Ellis James O Neal Bob Luttrell Phyllis Austin Everett Uhls and others. Ushers were Gladys Schlossler Doris Lanham Rose Mary Felton and Eileen Williams.
The School Band presents a Friday night concert at 8 p.m. with two guest soloists Bill Nieppetter and Eugene Myers. Nieppetter performs clarinet and studies in Decatur. Myers, a Brownstown high school junior, plays electric guitar and may attend San doval high school. Local soloists Jerry Breithaaupt and Nell Stringer also appear. The program includes marches overtures vocal and instrumental solos waltzes and a final audience singalong followed by the Star Spangled Banner. Conductor Arthur J. Albrecht urges community turnout.
Mrs. Marie Smith announces initiatory work at the next meeting of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge No. 715 in Sandoval at 8 p.m. Monday May 5.
Mr and Mrs James Hooper owners of the Star cafe in Sandoval place their business under a sixty day option to Mr and Mrs Kenneth Schleuter of St Louis Missouri. The Schleuters plan to finalize after arrangements in St Louis while the Hoopers move to Odin. Schleuter is the son of the late Emma Schleuter and his wife is the daughter of Mrs Ethel Gilbert both of Sandoval.

Mr and Mrs Tanner Mulvaney wed at 2 am on Apr 20 1946 and again at 2 am on Apr 20 1947 Mrs Mulvaney gave birth to a baby girl at St Marys hospital on their anniversary day. Others traveled to St Louis Sunday to attend the Police Circus with Mrs Erma Hetzel and children and Mr Robert Fore Mrs Grace Fetgatter and son Dickie and Miss Verta Lee Skeen.
Ara J. Rip Frazier known as Rip and Harry died April 26 after a four year illness. Funeral services were held April 29 at Boggs Funeral Home Centralia with Rev. E. A. Yates officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery. He lived in Sandoval over twenty years prior to moving to Centralia seven years ago. He was a member of Electrical Union Local 702. Survivors include his wife Lillie, son Ralph of Council Bluffs, daughter Mrs. Roscoe Quick of Centralia, stepson Robert Yates of Rock Falls, two stepdaughters, nine grandchildren, and two brothers. Address listed as 1103 S. Marion Centralia.
A year ago this week Odin high staged a class play and two couples, Miss Minnie Adele Evans with Ralph Voss and Miss Helen Chance with Eugene Booth, were married. Two weeks of special services began at Sandoval Christian Church as the Aces lost to Boulder 16 11. Joseph Voellmecke arrived on terminal leave, an oil well started on the John Thomas farm, Denzel Gumm reenlisted, and Wilbur Reinhardt was honorably discharged from the Army.

Edgar D. Goodwin had a close call Sunday afternoon April 27 when a rifle he was tar get shooting discharged accidentally. He held the barrel downward and thought the gun empty. the cartridge fired, piercing the toe of his sock and causing a slight gash on the tip of his big toe.
The Joe Altadonna Family expresses gratitude to relatives friends neighbors clergy religious groups and public organizations for comfort and sympathy during their recent bereavement.
Mr and Mrs R N Norris of St Louis visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Bill Day and Mr and Mrs Tanner Mulvaney. Hugh Smith and son Sandra from St Louis called on Mrs Stella Knight. Miss Susan Barnett arrived from Chicago to spend time with her grandmother Mrs Alice Kimpler.
