Discharged Navy Cook Jasper Altadonna Honored at Great Lakes
Jasper Altadonna husband of Mrs Mary Altadonna of Sandoval was honorably discharged from the U S Navy at Great Lakes Illinois on Thursday November 29 after twenty months of service and seventeen months overseas in Honolulu He entered the Navy March 2 1944 and left for overseas June 8 1944 He returned to the States September 28 1945 and after a forty five day leave with relatives went to St Louis then Great Lakes where discharge was granted Prior to enlisting he managed the Red and White Store in Sandoval with his cousin Tony and has resumed duties there since discharge.

The outing included meeting former Sandoval scout leader Miss Elsie Girard and concluded with shopping a movie and supper in East St. Louis. Emil Miketta husband of Mrs Ann Miketta formerly of Sandoval received an honorable discharge from the U S Sea Bees at Camp Perry Virginia November 21 after over two years of service including thirteen months overseas in the Pacific with the 14th Construction Battalion He held the rate of Gunner’s Mate second class and earned 44 points His service began October 6 1943 with overseas departure October 26 of the next year He served at Saipan Okinawa and Honolulu and returned to the United States at San Pedro November 14 His decorations include the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one battle star and the American Defense Ribbon.

Army Discharge for Alfred D. Wood Ends Three Years Service
Alfred Dean Wood son of Mr and Mrs Martin Wood of Sandoval was discharged from the Army at Camp Grant Illinois after three years service. He served as a technician fifth grade and entered in November 1942 going overseas in 1943 with the 462nd AAA attached to the 1st Army in actions from Glascow to Persia Germany including D-Day. He received the ETO ribbon with five battle stars a Unit Citation for action at the Belgium Bulge the good conduct ribbon and four overseas service bars. He returns to work for the Ohio Oil Company prior to his enlistment.

Mrs Eula Marcham Dies After Illness in Decatur
Word reached Sandoval Monday that Mrs. Eula Marcham 47 wife of Jake Marcham Carlyle died Sunday December 2 at St Marys Hospital Decatur Illinois after a recent operation. She was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs George Seen of Sandoval and funeral plans were incomplete awaiting her daughter’s arrival from Washington.
