Death of Dorothy June La Marr at 2 40 am
Two year old Dorothy June La Marr of Sandoval died Sunday at Monticello hospital from kidney infection and pneumonia after a brief illness believed to be hay fever. She was with her mother visiting relatives when her condition worsened. Survivors include her parents, grandparents C. E. La Marr and Myrtle Perry, funeral held August 12 at Linton Funeral Home Kinmundy with Rev. Clyde Sinclair. Burial in Sandoval cemetery.

Mrs. Virginia Bellamy marked her ninetieth birthday with an August 9 open house at her Sandoval home. Guests from Sandoval and surrounding communities arrived, offering gifts, flowers, cakes, and cards while she chatted about old times, sang Grandfather's Clock, and recited a poem. Refreshments were provided by Miss Virginia Seidel, Miss Mora Sherman, and Miss Jean Sherman. Bellamy, born in Kentucky, moved to Sandoval as a child with her parents Dr. and Mrs. Henry Serman and has spent most of her life in the Sandoval and Patoka area. The guest list included numerous relatives and local residents from Centralia, Patoka, and nearby towns.

The Sandoval Lions Club held a picnic at the State Fish Hatchery park near Carlyle on Thursday August 5. Tony Altadonna led the outing with Harold Simcox John Merklebach and others assisting. Members and wives enjoyed fried chicken salads ice cream and cake and a lively game of ball with Father Schumacher joining in. Ladies sang around a bonfire and the group thanked Tony for a well planned evening.

Fire Chief Rollie O Rogers reports Sandoval Volunteer Fire Department achieved a new all time no call run of 98 days this summer surpassing the 1947 72 day and 68 day marks. Residents credited for fire hazard removal while the department's clean up campaigns reduced dangers.
