County Board Hosts District Trustees Annual Meeting
Last Saturday the county school board and district trustees met for a joint lunch at Farmers Cafe followed by a business session in the district court room. Chairman T. C. Henry delivered welcome remarks, with Superintendent Huckaby and Hon. J. H. Baker stressing trustee duties and school financing. Prof. E. L. Allison discussed the county unit system and statewide education programs, leading to a round table and a Cherokee school report by TR Thompson. The event is planned as an annual feature with hopes all county trustees attend next year. Attending trustees included J. E. Roper, W. W. McBee, J. C. Maxcey, M. E. Reavis, Carl Bryant, A. Miller, S. P. Johnson, J. A. Sloan, J. N. Alexander, N. R. Thompson, Joe W. Terry, A. C. Longley, and Arthur Behrens. The county board comprises Henry, Baker, Miller, Turbiville, Alexander and Miss Davie Hubbert, who left for Belcher, Louisiana for the third year of teaching.

G W Wood a Texas pioneer died of paralysis at his ranch five miles southwest of Mertzon on Sept 10 Funeral services were held at Mertzon Church of Christ Rev Coffman of San Angelo officiating He was buried in Sherwood Cemetery Wood a descendant of an early Texas family aided by a father who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence He served with a Rangers frontier unit under his brother and later lived in Irion County for many years Surviving children include Kim Wood and Mrs Henry Goodloe among others with eight grandsons as pallbearers The widow Alsay Wood and several children survive plus numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren He was a former Algeria community resident and well known to old settlers Miss Lois Black of Lampasas visits Miss Jayme Campbell
