Brady editor recounts Beasley defense of a redistricting plan and his push to include Mason or Llano counties, noting the district would be shaped by rail lines and largely urban gains, with Dallas and another county yielding two rural districts. The Western state gains two Senate seats under the new map.
Representative J. Beasley protests the redistricting that places San Saba with Lampasas Burnett and Williamson, arguing it robs San Saba and lets Williamson dominate the 114th District while opposing East West representation. He notes the bill as passed would still leave the South and West underrepresented in the Capitol.
The High School Department will not open until Tuesday September 20. All other departments return Monday September 19 with grade assemblies at 9:00 AM by room and teacher. Faculty lists include W. W. Hart, Nora Walker, Ima Barlow, Bernice Sanderson, Lillian Brigham, Genie F. Cameron, plus C. K. Doran, J. W. Owen, H. Holcomb, A. B. Hill, Mabel Wilson, S. L. Simmons, S. A. The column praises abundant corn hay and oats yields with many bushels and fat hogs promised, while noting the cotton crop is nix and urging reduced cotton acreage. It cites I T Watkins and Melvin family visits, a new baby for Oscar Crocket, K K Brewer’s illness, and a warning about the money power and pricing effects of full cotton planting next year.
Mrs J M Skelton died at home near Mt Pleasant school house after about two years of suffering. Born Sept 18 1856 she married J M Skelton in 1872 and had eleven children, nine living. A faithful Baptist member cherished kindness to orphans and is mourned by family church and friends. Pastor T J Matlock led the service.
East Nashville residents hear from W N Parsons a local grocer that Thedford s Black-Draught is the best liver medicine aiding sour stomach indigestion and torpid liver. He says he uses it years, cannot do without it, and recommends it to all. The ad notes many others also find it valuable and warns to accept no imitations. Also mentions cotton trade and holiday goods ahead of Christmas trade with J W McConnell & Sons and R A Sears planning purchases in Dallas.
The disappearance of Mrs. Watson known as Aunt Polly was recalled when Jeff D. Casbeer found bones hair clothing and a walking stick on the White ranch near Lometa. An inquest found the remains were Mrs. Watson who died from starvation and thirst with no signs of violence.
A San Saba reader touts Dean’s Kidney Pills as widely effective for back pain and rheumatic limbs, praising ongoing use and recommending them to others. The ad copy also promotes Prickly Ash Bitters as a system purifier with health benefits, priced at 1.25. Additional brief items note Elton Noble and G. D. Heath’s El Paso trip and Miss Belle Poer visiting Llano.
The College of Industrial Arts outlines advantages for Texas girls including a healthful Texas location, moral environment, freedom from distractions, and a focus on practical living. It offers bachelor degrees in arts sciences music business and literary interpretation, diplomas, certificates, and teachers certificates.
