Ike Commer, poultry specialist from Hamilton, spoke to the Junior Chamber about poultry boosting county income by about a million dollars over two years and stabilizing farms. The San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce delegation visited Fredericksburg on November 8 for a testimonial dinner honoring highway officials and engineers. They distributed hundreds of gift bags of San Saba paper shell pecans printed with the Jaycees tribute, provided by Leonard Ranch manager Mr Burnam.

They stopped for lunch at Hotel San Saba joined by local officials and chamber heads. Mayor J H Baker gave the welcome, Port Bledworth spoke for the visitors, and Sam Waisman, a former San Saba boy, led as tour manager. The trip included Mullin Zephyr Goldthwaite Richland Springs and Rochelle before returning home.
After months of construction the new Brady Creek bridge at Brady is nearly finished and will likely enter inspection by the State Highway Dept. Jensen Bros. who hold the contract expect to apply a finishing coat of aluminum paint this week. The approaches will be paved soon.
Miss Violet Wagner of Shires Cafe was summoned home to Georgetown after her father sustained serious injuries in an auto crash nearby. The man who accompanied him in the car was hurt in the same accident.
Mrs C B Rice of Rochelle passed through San Saba en route to Liana for a noon luncheon at Hotel Liana hosted by the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She greeted Postmaster Smith. Mrs C A Law of Brownwood visited her brother G W Brown and family. Willie Fishback of Daniel Baker spent the weekend with his parents in Rough Creek. Clay Lindsey of San Angelo visited his brothers Walter and Tilden Lev. Mr H Bornstein, Mrs Geneva Huffstuder and Mrs Grace Lanham attended market week in Dallas. Mr and Mrs Kelly Owen and Mrs Geneva Huffstuder visited Brady Sunday. Mrs Luther John Williams had a daughter of Mr and BR Capps of Mason had her... in San Saba Tuesday. W J Edwards suffered rheumatism and was home for the weekend. Miss Opal Matlock, a Draughon’s College student in Abilene, made the Honor Roll for the term. Miss Juanita Smith, recently operated on for appendicitis in a Brady hospital, returned to work with Dr H V Felts, fully recovered, spent the weekend in Lampasas, and Sunday attended the SMU Texas Ugene in Dallas.

The Fre donia manganese mines in the southwestern tip of this county, used during World War I and in 1931, will reopen soon. Brady Chamber of Commerce manager M. J. Benefield traveled to Austin to meet operators who plan to visit Brady to prepare for reopening and resuming ore production. The Spiller mines and a nearby shaft in Fredonia yielded rich manganese ore, cut off years ago as Russia undercut U.S. mining costs. The United States imports most of its manganese, with demand rising due to European conflicts and steel production needs. There will be shipments to Brady for export.
