San Saba merchants will close Friday November 11 for Armistice Day observance. The town will be quieter as a caravan of football fans heads to the San Saba Marble Falls game set for 2 p.m. in Marble Falls.
San Saba County Farm Bureau plans a barbecue and membership meeting tonight with a board meeting and election of delegates for the State Convention in Dallas November 21 to 23. County officers will be chosen and reports on the membership drive will be given. members and prospective members are invited.
Seven divorce suits have been granted and five have been dismissed to date during the present term of district court. The court recessed for an indefinite period on November 8. A jury list for the April 1950 term was submitted to the district clerk by a jury commission headed by Sam Laird, Jack Sloan, and J Epperson.
R. J. Powell, Richland Springs vocational agriculture teacher, and his winning FFA meat judging team will be guests of honor and speakers at the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce November meeting. A barbecue supper starts at 7 p.m. in the Jaycee Hall, with members urged to bring a guest. A. B. Ford, county agricultural agent, is the program chairman.
A San Saba county report shows over 2700 bales of cotton ginned. More than 1400 bales were processed in San Saba and about 1800 in Richland Springs.

The Golden Armadillos of San Saba host the Marble Falls Mustangs on Armistice Day in a 2 p.m. Friday kickoff advancing the 1949 season finale for the Mustangs. San Saba seeks a fourth straight District 22-A win while Marble Falls eyes a season end of a three-game stretch. expect a large home crowd and possible air attacks from the Armadillos if the ground game stalls.
Louise Whitman Hill 79 a San Saba resident since 1929 died November 1 at her Llano home after a weeklong illness Funeral services were held November 2 at Howell Doran with Rev James F Hardie presiding Burial was in Hillside Cemetery Surviving are her son Joseph Hill Llano and sister Mrs Mary Kleppens Stephenville She was born November 12 1870 in Stephenville joined the Presbyterian church in youth and married Joseph C Hill October 12 1900 One son Joseph died the day after his birth Hill died in 1908 Mrs Hill moved to San Saba in December 1929
Red Cross first aid classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 with an 18 hour course taught by T. J. Stewart. Open to all men and women, tonight’s session is in the Red Cross room on the ground floor of the courthouse. If interest grows, a 30 hour advanced course may follow.
The Chaminade Music Club of San Saba tied for first in the Sixth District yearbook contest at Bra cay on Oct 28, sharing top honors with San Angelo. The yearbook committee includes Miss Lucy Walker Miss Lucille Bondy Mrs G A Wilson and Mrs L T Smith. The San Saba News aided in designing the 24 page book printed by The News printing department.
Tommy Hall of San Saba, 8, was accidentally shot in the lower right lung Sunday afternoon when his brother Warren dropped a .410 shotgun. He was near death at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday but improved slightly by 7 a.m. Wednesday at a Lampasas hospital where doctors reported his lung collapsed and he received oxygen and transfusions. Mrs. Hall, a widow with seven children, and relatives stayed with him through the night as he remained in critical condition.
San Saba's 980th Replacement Company was redesignated as a Class A unit retroactive to November 1, Maj. Smith of Brownwood announced at the Thursday meeting. As a Class A unit, about four meetings per month are authorized. About 33 locals attended, measured for uniforms, with eight signing as new members. Captain Jack B. Miller commands, and Red Patterson is First Sergeant.
The Grammar School Chorus Club of about 190 boys and girls will perform at First Methodist Church Sunday at 7 30 p m in its first church program. They will sing Follow the Gleam The Old Rugged Cross The Day Is Dying Dying In The West and My Prayer. Directed by Mrs Margaret Hopkins.
Wallace Creek community plans a 42 party and supper at Wallace Creek school house on Saturday November 19 at 7 20 pm Proceeds go to the school lunch program and to help pay for the piano bought by the community for Sunday school
Malachi Rogers was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary after pleading guilty to burglary and theft in district court here on November 3. The crime stemmed from a burglary of the W. T. Little & Sons hardware store. Rogers was taken to Huntsville the day after his trial and will receive 14 days off the sentence for time already served locally.
The San Saba VFW post sponsors a dance at Jaycee Hall this Saturday night from nine to one. Murl Alexander and the Texas Wranglers will provide music for the event.
Van Sadler owner of San Saba Western Auto says new steel and wood wall fixtures are being installed across the store. One unit is in place and the installer notes the change will fill wall space, improve display appeal, and allow clear labeling and pricing for customers.
State Department of Health grants permission to charge flooring as asphalt tile to finish the project. County Judge Jack Miller says lack of conductive tile had delayed completion for two to three weeks, now proceeding.
San Saba voters rejected a 200000 proposal to purchase the LCRA distribution system by 311 to 158. A total of 470 ballots were cast with one ineligible vote canceled. This defeat marks the proposal's second loss in three years.
Funeral services for 76 year old Guy Shoemake retired ginner were held Monday at Howell-Doran chapel. He died Sunday evening after a long illness. Survivors include wife Jemima, three sons and two daughters, grandchildren, and two half sisters and four half brothers. Burial in City Cemetery. He was born December 27, 1872 in Lavaca County and was a Methodist. Pallbearers listed.
San Saba reports full swing in pecans peanuts and turkeys as labor shifts from cotton. Pecan crop revised to about one fourth of normal. seedling pecans steady around 14 cents, tang improved to 18 to 20 cents. Ek. Lb. Bagley & Sons shipping about 468,261 pounds by rail and truck. Peanut grade 70 averaging 204 per ton with 150 tons bought in San Saba and 400 stored in Richland Springs. Turkey prices disappointing around 28 cents for toms and 33 cents for hens.
