Produce and Poultry houses in San Saha announce the turkey market opening for next Monday. Analysts expect a slight drop in turkeys and lighter birds this season with prices near last year. Local plants will employ at least 200 during picking and birds will be dressed and stored locally to keep money at home.
E A Tom was found dead in his bed early Monday morning from heart failure. Born Sept 24 1859 in Brenham Washington County he lived many years in San Saba Cherokee and Floresville. Survived by three children two daughters and one son with spouses in McAllen Cherokee and Richmond. Funeral in Cherokee Baptist Church conducted by Rev A J Lindsey with burial beside his late wife Hanna Cemetery.
The Richland Springs Eye-Witness lauds Rev Otto Martinson as a determined leader returning for another year at the Methodist church. It praises his hardy spirit, resilience through hard times, and belief that better days are ahead for the congregation.
Game Warden H G Morell delivered six Mason county deer to Hilliard Perry eight miles south of San Saba for his ranch preserve. A stately buck and six fawns constitute the herd and will be protected. Perry already has a good stock of deer and this addition enhances the county's game life.
Joe Terry brought the Newsman pecans from his orchard. The John Garner tree yielded 92 pounds for this year’s crop after being thrashed last Friday. Terry previously won first prize with this tree at Uvalde and Ross Wolfe of Stephenville bought the alien rights. Terry marketed other improved varieties for eating purposes.
The State faces Mrs. Naomi Deaver in a murder indictment over Raymond Lewis. Trial days include motions, jury selection, and ongoing testimony with a cross section of jurors named. Proceedings suggest the case may be sent to the jury by Thursday night.
A birthday party honored Dorothy Jane Little on her eighth anniversary last Saturday November 4. The event featured colored balloon decor a balloon contest won by Caroline Walters a fish pond and lawn games with ice cream cake and a grand pink icing birthday cake. Guests included Ruth McInnis Mack McInnis Wallace Hinyard Nell McCall Rebecca Ann Grumbles Dorothy Grumbles Nancy Jane Clark and many others. Mrs Little was assisted by hostesses Mrs George W Horton Mrs M R Weatherby and Mrs W G Kirkpatrick.
Paul Sloan reports 6,815 bales ginned in the county by Oct 18 this year, compared with 4,622 bales by the same date last year. Most of the crop was gathered by this date, and total this year is likely to fall below 6,000 bales.
Mrs E G Fentress of Brownwood is a guest of Mrs R W Burleson this week as social visits continue in the community.
San Saba Armadillos prepare for a big district clash at Lampasas with hopes for a championship push. Coach Locklear relies on a familiar starting lineup including Watson Funderburk Williams Roberts MelInn is Moore Leibetter and McDaniel in a rugged match against the Badgers that could reshape the season.
A Sunday service at First Baptist Church marked the second year completion and start of the third year for Pastor Rev Sam D Taylor. Members and friends shared a large dinner in the church basement, with abundant food and fellowship.

Chas. W. Taylor of Comanche county is visiting this week to see his brother George Taylor who has been ill for a long time.
San Saba First Baptist church will be well represented at the annual session of the Baptist State Convention in Fort Worth this week. The convention convened Tuesday. This is believed to be the largest convention of any kind in Texas. Delegates from San Saba include Rev. Sam D. Taylor, Mmes. Ed Crawford, L. W. Yarborough, S. E. Harber, Minnie Neal, Gordon Taylor, W. R. Deran and Miss Pauline Taylor.
Coleman Nov 4 State Senator Walter C. Woodward announced he will seek the office of Attorney General to succeed Allred who is expected to run for governor. He highlighted integrity and legal ability, citing 25 years of practice and 10 years in the State Senate, and said he will campaign to inform Texans of his qualifications while pledging faithful service if elected.
Speedy Carter knocked out Wickwire in the feature at Camp Miriam in the first round. Herrera stopped Marsh in the first round of the second bout. Cleveland won a three round decision over Sullivan in the third. Red Smith and Red Mayes shared the victory in the redheads battle royal. Shelton and Baker drew after three rounds. Hale scored a first round knockout over Schussler. Reed stopped Pink Stone in the second round after the towel was thrown in. Sailor Bill Whitehurst beat Walker decisively in the curtain. Captain Brannan announced future bouts with Boyce vs Heatherly and Carter vs Moore next Wednesday.
James Hiram Lindsey, a longtime San Saba County resident, died at his ranch home north of Locker on Monday November 6 at 4:30 p.m. Funeral was held at the residence with Rev. T. J. Sparkman officiating. Burial followed in Hanna Valley cemetery. Lindsey, born October 9, 1847 in Mississippi, lived on the homestead since 1859. Survived by eight children and several relatives, he was remembered as a generous, principled man and active church worker.
November opened with a weather shift bringing light to good rains across the county last week. San Saba recorded .65 inch while other areas saw an inch or a strong shower. Moisture should boost fall oats and grazing though stock water remains scarce and many continue hauling water. a sustained rain to fill rivers and creeks is hoped for.
In the West Texas Conference pastor Rev. J. W. Rowland, formerly at San Saba for two years, transfers to Comfort church. The Rowland family left Monday for the new home. He is regarded as a strong preacher and friends wish them well in the new assignment.
On Burnham Farm, the large pecan tree, now owned by T. J. Burnham, yielded a record 1,009 pounds of nuts as Mexicans gathered the crop last week. The tree previously topped 900 pounds in 1931, with hail and other years reducing production.
Rev. W. L. Sherman and his family arrived at the parsonage this week to assume duties at the First Methodist Church. He previously pastored Comfort for five years. The Sherman party includes his wife and three children, plus Mr. and Mrs. M. Hedges and sister Miss Beatrice of Austin. A warm welcome awaits parishioners at Sunday services.
San Saba High Armadillos slumped to a 13 to 0 win over Cherokee at the San Saba Fair Park after a sluggish performance marked by misplays. Watson scored both Armadillo touchdowns, with Roberts adding the extra point as San Saba eyes Lampasas next Friday to continue their district bid.
Mr and Mrs S F Gray of Carrizo Springs were in the county on business and visited the old Cherokee home early this week. The couple were noted for their interest in regional historic sites.
