Funeral services for W. C. Whitt 68 retired auto dealer were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 from the Church of Christ in San Saba with Ministers Bill Kaufman and Clem Hoover officiating. Whitt died Tuesday afternoon at his residence after an illness of several weeks. He was a Kentucky native and had lived in San Saba County six years. Survivors include his widow Minnie Walker Whitt two daughters Mrs H D Chadwick of San Saba and Mrs Garland Due of Jasper four sons A Lee Whitt of Hamilton Cleaburn Whitt Clarence Whitt and Clinton Whitt all of San Angelo two brothers J T Whitt of San Saba and Oscar Whitt of Cherokee and three sisters Mrs M L Montgomery of Clovis NM Mrs J J White of Lampasas and Mrs J B Perkins of Star. Pallbearers were William Roy Kendall Curtis Janson G G Creamer Herby Taylor Arthur Gunter and Bill Harbuck. Burial was in the Cherokee Cemetery with Howell Daran Funeral Directors in charge.
McMillin and VFW share the lead in the Second Annual San Saba County Softball Tournament after two wins each. Spring Creek and Cherokee each have one win with no losses, while Texaco and High School have one loss each. The schedule includes Pioneers versus Spring Creek and Cherokee versus McMillin tonight at the San Saba Memorial Ball Park with games nightly sponsored by local veterans groups.
Corde Spani Mission Board will be next speaker at the First Baptist here on Sunday at 2 30. Rev Loyd Ry superintendent of the A department of the Ilame will bring the principal address. The Baptist Mexican church recently erected south of Taylor hosts the event. Rev Corder is a ventriloquist with a dummy named Joe Baptist invited to both services.
More than 1,000 head of cattle and a few sheep sold at Harkeyville ring for a total of 2423.26 dollars. The Bagley and McJean operation led sales with calves and cows fetching 26.5 cents per pound for fat calves and 18.5 to 21 cents for stockers, as buyers from nearby counties participated in Texas’ livestock market showcase.

San Saba County officials inspected Wallace Creek bridge about 2 miles from Harkeyville after heavy equipment damaged supports. The 1905 era bridge is impassable and traffic was rerouted while Austin bridge engineer estimates repair costs and makes recommendations. Commissioners meet to review.

REA approved a $165000 loan to Pedernales Electric Cooperative to extend nine additional ties and 40 miles of line in San Saba County. The action, reported via telegram from Congressman A C Fisher, follows a March provision for 40 miles of line in the same county.

Two convicts from Huntsville penitentiary received concurrent sentences after pleading guilty to burglary and related counts in District Court. Barney Wallace and Wilbur E Strickland, both at large for months, were moved from Huntsville to San Saba then Las Saba jail, with Strickland previously tied to a murder charge in San Antonio.
