City Fire Chief Warns Against Burning Trash in Summer
Fire Chief Don Woodruff, also City Fire Marshal, urges residents in city limits to avoid open trash fires during dry summer months due to fire risk. He says dispose of papers and trash in garbage cans or take to damp ground, not burn. Rural areas should burn only on cleared sites with water ready, as grass and pastures burn easily. Firefighters were called to several grass fires sparked by trash, burning acres near the Smilleh place and the Terry Cemetery area. Violators may be fined by City Hall. all residents should take precautions to prevent fires.
