Back Your Rodeo Opens Junior Chamber Event

The first annual Junior Chamber rodeo begins today and runs through Saturday at Rogan Field arena. The Texas planning board notes tourism ranks second to oil in annual revenue as 1938 ends. Texans overlook its value due to vast distances and scattered travel, with Gulf Coast boating, East Texas forests, and West Texas mountains drawing visitors. In 1937 over 11.6 million tourists arrived, nearly twice Texas's population.

Looking Backward At San Saba E. E. Rissen reports near foot of rain this month

E Rissen keeps a rain gauge and notes almost a foot of rain this month in San Saba. Rev T F Dimmitt and others travel Wednesday to Liane for a district conference. No railroad mail Tuesday due to a rising river hindering crossings. The editor’s family buggy, purchased from Joel Clark, is now in use. Corn prices projected at 25 to 36 cents per bushel with demand likely lower.

District candidates ride at Locker picnic and rodeo

Five years ago this week June 28 1934 district and county candidates had a big day at the Locker picnic and rodeo. Sen Connally opened his campaign for re election in Marlin. San Saba County farmers received 23685.66 in cotton checks for relief, distributed to 757 farmers. City Drug Store offered trusses and a stock of single and double varieties at reasonable prices.
