The first annual Junior Chamber rodeo begins today and runs through Saturday at Rogan Field arena. Community turnout will determine if San Saba County sustains its own rodeo in future years and avoids traveling to West Texas for comparable entertainment. A grand parade at four o clock Thursday invites residents to secure seats early.
The Texas planning board notes tourism ranks second to oil in annual revenue as 1938 ends. Texans overlook its value due to vast distances and scattered travel, with Gulf Coast boating, East Texas forests, and West Texas mountains drawing visitors. In 1937 over 11.6 million tourists arrived, nearly twice Texas's population.
An unnamed product labeled as a clean liquid cures poison oak eczema and skin irritations with no stain. Sold at Taty Drug Store, it promises clear, stain free results.
E Rissen keeps a rain gauge and notes almost a foot of rain this month in San Saba. Rev T F Dimmitt and others travel Wednesday to Liane for a district conference. No railroad mail Tuesday due to a rising river hindering crossings. The editor’s family buggy, purchased from Joel Clark, is now in use. Corn prices projected at 25 to 36 cents per bushel with demand likely lower.
Five years ago this week June 28 1934 district and county candidates had a big day at the Locker picnic and rodeo. Sen Connally opened his campaign for re election in Marlin. San Saba County farmers received 23685.66 in cotton checks for relief, distributed to 757 farmers. City Drug Store offered trusses and a stock of single and double varieties at reasonable prices.
The notice urges readers to pay subscription during July to get a $1.00 rate instead of $1.50, saving 50 cents on a yearly subscription.
Ellis D. Cockrell explains Senate Joint Resolution No 12 on Old Age Assistance. He argues the $15 million limit and potential $30 million with federal match would yield about $14.80 monthly for 170,000 seniors and warns against a constitutional sales tax. He notes amendments possible, cites governor pressure, and urges prudence and principle over political gain.

Miss Altha Smith of Littlefield arrives to spend a month with her grandmother Mrs. W. J. Smith, and uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Willie Smith, on Wallace Street. Altha, raised in San Saba, enjoys her summer stay here.
