Hunting Leases Bring Millions In Texas, 1966 Report
Wallace Klussmann of Texas A and M reports landowners earned over 13 million dollars from hunting leases in 1966 based on 21 000 landowners leasing 38 million acres in 1965. Deer, waterfowl, quail and dove leases drive the wildlife economy with average deer annual leases about 46 cents per acre statewide and 80 cents on Edwards Plateau. Fishing leases net about three quarters of a million for lake owners, with daily fishing leases around one dollar.
