New York July 19. Charts at a ship building conference warn submarines pose little threat only if ships reach 20 knots, and urge construction to reach at least 16 knots. E H Outerbridge, president of the chamber, warns current sinking rates imply a loss of the war without intensified industrial effort.
Special election notice issued by Governor James H Ferguson for San Saba County Texas. Election date is Tuesday August 21 1917. Voters decide amendments to Article 16 Constitution concerning conservation districts and their governance. County Judge W V Dean signs the notice.
Mrs Minnie Peters wife of RE J D Peters eight miles from Brady on the Eden road reports raising 2000 spring chickens now ripening for market in a few days. She says the farm is well suited for poultry and the crop required little trouble or expense. Peters plans to continue poultry farming next year and believes the current crop could fetch about 700 dollars, a notable sum for local readers.
Washington July 19 The fighting equipment of Uncle Sam expands with two Winchesters joining the U S Marines today joining Remington Marlin Smith and Wesson among familiar names. The roster now includes many rifle makers though Springfield still has no namesake among the sea soldiers.

They persuaded the commission to approve a state highway from Austin through Cedar Park Leander Liberty Hill Bertram Burnet Bluffton Llano to connect with the Puget Sound Highway at Mason. The Bulletin commends their efforts though details on plans remain unclear.
Miss Mary Allison wed Mr. William B Henry in Georgetown with family and out of town guests attending. The ceremony featured daisies and blue and gold ribbons, Mendelssohn march, and a ring service. Afterward the couple traveled to Austin and Galveston then planned to settle in Austin Mrs. Granberg played and Rev Black officiated.
