Texas Ranger Law Declared Void By Court
San Antonio Jan 15 The law creating the ranger force passed March 20 1901 and amended in 1919 is unconstitutional and void Judge R B Minor of the Fifty Seventh District Court ruled in a case by J E Elgin. A perpetual injunction barred payment and organization of the Rangers. The ruling cites violations of articles 2 4 and 5 of the Texas Constitution, noting the state government three departments separation of powers and delegation of sheriff like powers. The opinion traces Texas ranger legislation, contrasting modern force with the frontier era 1877 ranger law.
