Founding and Destruction of San Saba Mission
Letters dating to 175 years ago reveal the founding of the San Saba Mission on the San Saba River in Texas. Father de Terreros led efforts, funded by Don Pedro Romero deserros, Count of Regia, and the mission faced Apache and Comanche resistance. A massacre followed with only one survivor delivering news to the garrison. The letters, discovered in Mexico City by Dr. Lota Mae Spell, offer insights into early Texas mission life and Indian relations.
