Kidd reports 1958 brought better crops and range conditions, with peanuts yielding about 80 bushels per acre on 10,000 acres, 850 bales of cotton on 2,000 acres, and strong grain sorghum. Murder trial to open here Monday in Valento Luera case

Injured Rider Is 18 After Horse Falls Into Hole
Robert Lée Edmondson, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Edmondson, sustained a broken collarbone and mashed vertebra when the horse he rode fell into a hole. He was taken by ambulance to San Saba Memorial Hospital and remained resting Tuesday. Ward Ellis Jr., San Saba Justice of the Peace, returned to work after emergency appendectomy on Dec 21.

Sheriff Brantley Barker and Deputy Ben Blossman recovered a stolen 1965 Buick under the Colorado River bridge on Highway 190. Alex Broyles reported the car. it was towed to Ambor Garage for safekeeping. December 1958 brought rain, snow, and freezing temps across San Saba county, with 1.18 inches in December and 31.26 inches for the year. The weather office noted subsoil moisture and a forecast of more moisture ahead. The coldest readings hit 13 to 19 degrees in early December.

24 Families Receive Christmas Food Baskets in San Saba
The San Saba County Chamber of Commerce distributed food and toys to 24 families totaling 125 people in San Saba county and 86 children. Distributions reached San Saba Richland Springs and Cherokee after names were submitted by doctors ministers school administrators and individuals.
