Next Sunday afternoon a religious census will be conducted in the San Saba area. About 40 enumerators from San Saba churches will visit homes of roughly 4,000 residents to determine church affiliations. A pastors meeting last Monday finalized non sectarian plans to identify active church membership, noting only about 1,300 people are enrolled in local congregations.

Washington official praises calves at San Saba visit
M. L. Wilson director of the Extension Service in Washington DC toured San Saba County with County Agents Tisdale and Miss Prichard. He praised prize winning calves raised by 4 H and FFA members and declared the steak from a local pecans impressed. State Hiway Engineer details 1946 asphalt plan for Llano to San Saba
State Highway Engineer Julian Montgomery told Senator Houghton Brownlee that the 1946 Asphalt Program includes asphalt surfacing on State Highway 81 from Llano to the San Saba County line with an $80,000 allotment and a separate project in San Saba County from the Llano County line northward with a $92,400 appropriation. The reply notes no reference to surfacing north of San Saba and mentions ongoing survey and a start in about 60 days. Resident Engineer W W Wilkerson had provided estimates last week.

San Saba WPA Sewing Room Expands With New Machines
The San Saba WPA Sewing Room, supervised by Miss Grace Baxter, adds five new machines to reach 25. In February it received 2088 yards of denim and cloth and produced 991 garments, including 85 men’s lined coats. About 35 women work there with a $1200 monthly payroll, distributing all clothing to needy San Saba County families via County Welfare Supervisor Mrs. Irene Gibson.

Rev Steinman to Address Negro Leaders At Houston Conference
The Rev George J Steinman traveled from Temple to Houston to speak at a conference of Negro deans and leaders of young people's assemblies and institutes. Texas Made Newsprint Debuts In Local Paper
The San Saba County paper announces its first edition printed on Texas made newsprint from Southland Pauper Mills Inc of Lufkin. The paper is produced from pine ground wood pulp, using the first Texas grown and processed to make newsprint. Previously the newspaper relied on Canadian mills for stock.

WPA Road Project Opens in Precinct No 2
Seventy thousand dollar WPA road project in Precinct No 2 starts with 57 workers on the Old China Creek road and six to seven more to report later. Commissioner Ed F Knight oversees with engineer Billy Chunn drafting plans. The work widens and surfaces roads, builds concrete structures and will expand precinct wide. The WPA effort resumes after a shutdown last fall.

Bass Season Closes Today For Two Months In San Saba
San Saba sportsmen rush to fish the last day of bass season with crappie catches noted. After today it will be illegal to fish bass or crappie for two months until May 1, artificial lures banned. Calves and Livestock Sell at Fort Worth Market Show
Fourteen calves from the county Livestock Show sold at the Fort Worth market with 44 lambs and 23 hogs in a Tuesday night to Wednesday morning run. Calves averaged 440 pounds at 9 to 10 cents a pound, top calf at 60.37, total 090.14 dollars. Lambs brought 240.92, hogs 160.66, handled by Howell Bros. Comm. Co.
