Thomas Henry Dove 52 a San Saba county rancher who recently moved to Sloan died at his home after a heart attack. Funeral services were held Monday at Wallace Creek Cemetery with Rev. White officiating. Survivors include his widow two sons two grandchildren four sisters and two half siblings. Pallbearers listed. burial also at Wallace Creek Cemetery.
The Triangle Bell Rodeo Rand of Belton will produce the Tenth Annual Jaycee Rodeo in San Saba on June 17 18 and 19 Red Williams Jaycee President said the rodeo committee closed the deal with firm representatives last week New specialty acts and a bareback bronc riding event are added to freshen the program A street parade is planned for opening afternoon and organizers seek the Light Crust Doughboys for a performance Williams said.
Legionnaires will host a steak supper at 7 30 Friday night in the school lunch room per commander Terrance Walker. Ray Sullivan district commander will speak, with Harry Shapiro heading the supper committee. Discussion may consider using the softball field for baseball on Sunday evenings.
A “million dollar rain” drenched San Saba County Tuesday night with totals from 1.25 inches in the west to 5.50 inches in the east. Light showers lingered Wednesday as farmers cheered the moisture essential for spring planting and pasture growth, with Pecan Grove reporting 5.50 inches and other locales recording 4 inches at H E Stewardson ranch, 3 to 4 inches at Simpson Creek and Shaw Bend, and 2 to 3 inches at several towns including San Saba 2.52 inches. A UNITed Telephone Co survey listed 1.25 inches at Richland Springs, 2 inches at Algerita, 2.75 at Harkeyville, 3 at Cherokee, 3.58 at Wimberly Ranch, 4.50 at Red Bluff, and 2 inches at Bend and Chappel.
The San Saba Bakery undergoes a face lifting this week with white exterior paint a partitioned display room new display cases fluorescent lights flooring and a lowered ceiling. A new bread wrapping machine will be installed in production as remodeling starts Monday contractor Howard Sellman directs work. Bakery operations paused except bread while Paul Baker aims to reopen for retail by Saturday offering cakes cookies and other baked goods. Building ownership is listed as Mrs. Clarence Gosch.
The Lampasas basketball team dropped a district playoff to Coleman 42 to 28 in the third game of three for the 8-A district title. Coleman also won the earlier Lampasas game 17 to 18 and the Brownwood game 24 to 20, clinching the championship for Coleman.
R G Pud Watkins, owner of Watkins Pharmacy for three years, sells the business to Worth Parker effective March 1. The store will be renamed Parker Pharmacy, with remodeling planned by Tom Murray Jr. Parker will keep the shop open during the remodeling. Watkins stays on for a few days to close affairs. Parker, a UT School of Pharmacy graduate and exMarine officer, is a San Antonio native who moved with his wife Mary Jeanne Chancey to San Saba February 1. Watkins has no announced plans.
KR J Pollard reports to Congressman Fisher that LCRA and Pedernales Electric Cooperative will likely serve all applicants in San Saba County soon. 175 members are served, 53 completed in two years, 48 remain. construction HQ at Llano, efforts to complete in coming months. Also, Jimmy West and Myrtle Wagle attended Huph Bain's funeral in Adamsville.

The San Saba Production Credit Association edged Winter Garden via $6.12 to lead Texas associations in loan volume. San Saba reached a record $1,888,894.34 in 1947, narrowly surpassing Winter Garden's $1,888,888.22.

The San Saba Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting Friday at 4 PM in the county court room of the courthouse to elect officers. All interested in the operation and upkeep of the City Cemetery are urged to attend.
A 7 am Wednesday breakfast in Hotel San Saba launched a fundraising campaign for Boy Scout work in the area. G N Quirl of the Comanche Trail Council Brownwood assisted L C Ward San Saba committee chair in outlining the drive. The 1948 Comanche Trail budget of 17000 covers an eight county area. George Washington's birthday was observed as a holiday by banks and the post office this week. Public correspondence to The San Saba News arrived late, delaying some letters. those delayed will appear in next week's issue.
Formal opening of Cash Feed & Produce Co. on North Cherokee Street behind City National Bank Building set for 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday February 28. Owners Lloyd Byrd Stacy Oliver and Laurence Hamrick will host Arrow Mills and Red Chain reps to discuss feeding problems and provide literature. Free refreshments all day.
Mrs Ophelia Little owner of Ophelia's Beauty Shop announced two new slendarizing machines. The Howard Cabinet uses steam cabinet principle and the Slendavogue uses mild electric impulses to exercise muscles.
Malcolm J Hamilton of San Saba and Hubert Marion Parks of Richland Springs were named recruit patrolmen by Colonel Homer Garrison Jr of the Texas Department of Public Safety. They join the first recruit training school and will be assigned to the Dallas area starting March 1.
City beauty shop resumes business this week under new operators Miss Mabel Claire Taylor and Miss Vanny Neal. Mrs Horace Sargent invites former customers to return for services.
Rural San Saba County Red Cross workers will gather in the county courthouse Saturday at 2:31 pm for supplies and instructions for the 1948 fund drive. A delayed kickoff set for March 4 at 9 am in the Hotel San Saba Spanish Room, with J Hudson Kelly chairing the business district and Mrs G A Arbelger leading the residential drive. Dougal Cameron urges full attendance to establish the organizational setup and close the drive by March 19.
Lions and Rotary Clubs of San Saba met at Hotel San Saba Spanish Room to discuss the Red Cross annual drive. Speakers included W. T. Little M. W. Trussell and W. A. Binith with Rotary plans by Worth Doran. Rev. T. K. Anderson spoke on the agency’s aid and operation.
