Frank Long Killed in Auto Crash
Frank Long twenty two son of Mr and Mrs Nat Long residing near Chappel died in a head on collision while driving to San Angelo late Tuesday night. One other person died hours later in the crash, with Jimmy Bevans of Menard named as the other victim though unconfirmed. Funeral plans not set but likely at Chappel. Long was a Cherokee high school graduate from the class of 1985. The family has community sympathy.

Post Adjutant Hugh Henry mailed to State Legion Headquarters at Austin yesterday six new memberships in the focal post bringing active membership to the quota of 40. San Saba County gains a Texas made newsprint milestone as the San Saba News will be printed next week on paper from the new Southland Paper Mills in Lufkin Texas. The pine fiber sheet uses 20 percent sulphate chemical and measures 18 feet wide before cutting to size, making next week’s issue lighter than prior imports from Canada and Nordic mills.

Porter Pearcy Dies After Illness at Sloan Ranch
Porter Pearcy, longtime Sloan Sisters' ranch employee, died Wednesday afternoon after a serious illness. He passed at his home on the Sloan ranch. Funeral arrangements had not been completed and were expected today. He was about 65 years old.

City Commission acted to settle 1924.25 in delinquent interest on old bonds. The money comes from recent delinquent taxes. about 3000 remains outstanding on one note to be paid as receipts warrant arrives. Board also eyed removing water hyacinths from Mill Pond and purchased a new city secretary accounting machine. A new traffic signal at Howard Wallace Streets will operate soon for drivers and pedestrians. Miss Lucille Linn started secretarial work in Attorney Gates office after returning from Rock Island where she served Modern Woodmen of America.

San Saba County to Get Paving on Highway 81 and 190
Division Engineer Leo Ehlinger announced funds are set aside to pave Highway 81 from the Mills County line to Llano County, with plans also to pave the San Saba to Llano segment and a five mile patch toward San Saba. Completion, under WPA relief, is aimed within 60 days, with surveys underway and construction to start on the first eight miles north of San Saba. U.S. Highway 190 east of town is advancing, with three new power units added, and paving expected once work near the river finishes.

Hotel Meeting Called For On February 27
Following a brief stockholders meeting of the Hotel San Saba Corporation, an adjourned meeting is set for 10 o clock Tuesday February 27 at the county court room to decide on a proposed sale of the hotel building to Gen B Roberts and son Stoy. President Clay Kuykendall urged stockholders or proxies to attend or mail proxies to secretary W H Hinyard before the deadline. The building cost 60000 to 70000 dollars and was financed by public subscriptions in 1927 or 1928, with the Roberts family the operators.

Local Markets Buy Choice Show Calves for Trade
County 4 H and FEA boys livestock show Tuesday saw two meat dealers purchase top baby beeves raised locally. Modern Way Grocery bought two calves weighing about 840 and 860 pounds bred on Sloan Pool and Buster Pool ranches. Willis Watson Market bought one calf fed and exhibited by Richard Taylor from the W H Taylor ranch. Calves sold around ten cents a pound at the door.
