Joe Burkett of San Antonio and former 42nd district court judge in Eastland has announced for Congress at large. He also served as district clerk and Eastland county judge and is son of Clyde pioneer horticulturist J H Burkett. He resigned from the highway commission during James E Ferguson’s tenure amid contract controversy.

Woodson Keeney and J M Mc Coury attended the play The Path Across the Hill at Bend Tridey night. The night school run by Prof E A Martin is progressing well. County Superintendent F G Hillman gave a fine talk on turkeys during the last meeting where women sold pies cake candy coffee and popcorn. Barton Dailey of San Saba spent the weekend with Alton Lively. Mr and Mrs James Dailey of Houston visited their parents Mr and Mrs Ben Lively.
Bus Brown and wife of Hobbs New Mexico visit his father George Brown and other relatives. Floyd Reynolds of the city visited Santa Anna last week. Franklin Martinson was a business visitor in San Antonio early this week. Arthur Carter and Inez Smith attended Tom Altizer’s funeral in Cherokee Saturday. High school debating teams went to Brady Friday. boys won, girls lost. Nelson Weaver weekend in Goldthwaite. Penn Beakley of Austin visiting his parents. Rev. Sam Taylor of San Saba visited Saturday. E H Beakley attended funeral in Mercury Friday. Betty Ann Woolsey of Austin visiting grandparents L A Hall this week.

In Live Oak a Vocational Agriculture Evening School session discussed dairy herd nutrition. Attendees agreed cows producing 8 gallons daily need varied rations, rest between milkings, and breeding for fall calving. Two sample rations were outlined and feeding scaled to milk output. Next meeting Friday Feb 19 at 7:30 focuses on feeding hens for egg production.
Cherokee P T A met Thursday February 11 in the school auditorium with president Mrs Groves Kuykendall presiding. Absent reports from secretary Mrs Robert Singleton and treasurer Mrs Elery Lucas were omitted. A Valentine program by Miss Collier's pupils and piano solo by Mrs Alva Keeney were presented. The group awards a monthly classroom picture to the room with most mothers present. Miss Nixon and Miss Collier tied and agreed to split the prize, so both rooms will receive a picture.
